SO WHAT EXACTLY IS POLLEN?

Pollen is a fine powder produced by the male organs of flowering plants (angiosperms). This powder is the male reproductive element of flowers, essential for fertilization and seed production. The process of transferring pollen from the male organs (stamens) to the female organs (pistil) is called pollination.

Bees play a key role in the pollination process: as they visit different flowers to carefully collect nectar, they also pick up pollen that clings to their bodies. After foraging, bees store the pollen in special pouches on their hind legs and carry it back to the hive. Once at the hive, the pollen is stored as a food source for the bees and to feed the larvae.

WHAT'S IN BEE POLLEN?

Pollen grains are made up of a variety of nutritive and biologically active substances. The precise composition can vary depending on the plant or flower of origin, but in general, pollen grains contain the following elements:

  1. Proteins: Pollen is an excellent source of protein, containing all the essential amino acids needed for life.

  2. Vitamins: Pollen contains various vitamins, including B-complex vitamins, vitamin C (also found in fruit), vitamin E, and other fat-soluble vitamins.

  3. Minerals: It may contain essential minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, zinc and others.

  4. Fatty acids: Some pollen grains contain essential fatty acids, such as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

  5. Antioxidants: Antioxidants, such as flavonoids and carotenoids, are present in pollen and help neutralize free radicals.

  6. Carbohydrates: Pollen may contain carbohydrates in the form of simple and complex sugars.

  7. Enzymes: Some types of pollen contain enzymes, which may have beneficial effects on digestion.

  8. Fiber: Although generally present in small amounts, pollen may contain natural dietary fiber.

The specific composition depends on the plant of origin. Pollen is recognized as a superfood because of its richness in essential nutrients.

I'M ALLERGIC TO AIRBORNE POLLEN, CAN I EAT GRANULATED POLLEN?

Pollen allergies result from exposure to lightweight, wind-borne pollen released by plants such as grasses (wind-pollinated). This is usually what irritates your body at the start of spring. Bee pollen, on the other hand, comes from different plants (insect-pollinated), whose heavier pollen does not disperse into the air. Since these plants depend on bees for their reproduction, people allergic to grass pollen can safely eat flower pollen from the hive. That said, it should be carefully noted that, in rare cases, an allergy to granulated pollen is possible, just as with any other hive product (royal jelly, propolis, etc.); avoid any risk and don't hesitate to contact a healthcare professional if you experience allergic symptoms.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POLYFLORAL AND MONOFLORAL POLLEN?

Polyfloral pollen is produced from a combination of pollens coming from different flower and plant species, offering a diversity of colors and flavors. Monofloral pollen, on the other hand, is collected from a single flower species, giving it more distinctive characteristics. The choice between the two depends on individual preferences and nutritional goals. Either way, you're choosing a natural superfood that will support your body and help your immune system.

WHAT MAKES OUR ORGANIC FLOWER POLLEN SPECIAL?

  1. Bee-friendly beekeeping practices: We have set up a Gentle Beekeeping® charter that certifies beekeeping practices ensuring the wellbeing of the bees.

  2. "Free Will" system: Our harvesting method uses the "Free Will" device, allowing bees to pass through freely without risk of injury, respecting their natural behavior.

  3. Paleo certification: When Paleo certifies our organic bee pollen, it guarantees that it is raw and untouched, with no added cultivated grains, even in powder form, no dairy products, colorants, preservatives, sweeteners, artificial flavors or flavor enhancers, and no trace of pollution.

  4. Hydroplus® process: To preserve the pollen, we use the "Hydroplus®" process, ventilating the pollen at temperatures between 30 and 35°C to preserve its soft texture and nutrients.

  5. Dynamization by the bees: This involves a specific process where the finished preparations are exposed to the hive environment for a set period of 36 hours. We also use this process on our other products, such as honey, propolis or royal jelly. This method helps improve the taste, smell, shelf life, as well as the tolerance and effectiveness of the preparations.

  6. Never frozen: A mark of quality, this is essential to preserve its nutrients and delicate texture, while maintaining its natural flavor and avoiding degradation caused by ice crystal formation and increased moisture.

  7. Local & French: Our products are made in France; jarring takes place in our Bee Factory in Maubourguet (65). To limit the impact on the quality of our hive products, our hives are placed in protected areas, far from any pollution. With us, we work from flower to finished product.
