At harvest, propolis ranges from dark red to dark brown. It is necessary to prepare an extract for it to be made available to the body. There are specific processes to preserve all the richness of the substance, which work in complete synergy. Black propolis is the most active; it is obtained through maceration in organic brandy, a process that allows the extraction of its most active substances, making it a powerful multifunctional treatment, highly concentrated, for close protection of your body. It quickly relieves minor winter ailments and skin imperfections.

Propolis is a natural substance produced by bees from plant resins they collect from various plants, particularly trees such as conifers and poplars. Bees then mix these resins with beeswax, saliva and other secretions to create propolis. This substance is used by bees to seal and protect their hive by blocking cracks, holes and potential openings. Unfortunately, when bees are unable to find the elements needed to naturally make propolis, they may turn to substances such as tar, varnish and mineral oils. This is why we choose Gentle Beekeeping®, which ensures we harvest an exceptionally fresh propolis. This harvest is carried out using an exclusive French wooden inner cover, with no use of plastic materials whatsoever. This approach guarantees an organic propolis of unmatched cleanliness and purity, with no waxy characteristics. What's more, this propolis harvest is carried out without disturbing the bees.
This process is overseen by a qualified quality expert, covering checks for freshness, the presence of parasites and the detection of chemical residues.
Black propolis is an alcohol-based extract obtained by macerating propolis in organic spirit, unlike white propolis, which is a water-based extract obtained by macerating propolis in spring water. Black propolis is the most active, while white propolis, just as effective, has the advantage of being alcohol-free and suitable for people who cannot consume alcohol, such as children.
Thanks to its maceration in organic spirit, black propolis is the most active preparation in our propolis range. Its richness in polyphenols and antioxidants makes it a top ally for everyday winter concerns and skin imperfections, with a concentrated, close-acting effect. It's particularly recommended for adults seeking enhanced protection, alongside or alternating with alcohol-free white propolis for children and those who don't consume alcohol.
Black propolis comes in several formats to suit every use. The French Black Propolis Extract, highly concentrated, is our historic reference for a targeted cure. The Black Propolis Spray and the Nomad Emergency Spray, best-sellers in the range, allow for fast application at the first signs of discomfort. For a tastier option, the French Black Propolis Cure Honey combines the benefits of honey with those of propolis, while the Winter Propolis Syrup and the Brrr! Grog support you through the cold season.
The 4 Forces of the Hive preparation, our best-seller, combines black propolis with honey, pollen and royal jelly for overall body support. Finally, the Pyrenean Tonic Friction makes use of black propolis's properties for a toning skin application.
As black propolis is an alcohol-based extract, it is not recommended for children under 12, pregnant women or breastfeeding women: alcohol-free white propolis is better suited to them. For children from 36 months or from 12 years, some of our black propolis preparations remain suitable depending on their formulation — check the specific guidance for each product.
